The new Munch Museum in Oslo, Norway, is one of the most talked-about building projects in Norway due to its architecture and location in the harbour of Oslo. It is also known as the Lambda and will host the world’s biggest collection of masterpieces by Edvard Munch.

The painter Edvard Munch (1863–1944) donated all of his works that he owned (including paintings, sculptures, photographs, sketches, and notebooks – over 28,000 in all) to Oslo. When the old Munch museum had become too small and outdated, the city of Oslo decided to build a new one. Winner of the architectural competition for the project was Spanish architect Juan Herreros.

Construction started in 2015, and peaked during the autumn of 2016. Over the course of 33 days, the concrete core was built to a height of 60 meters with the use of a slip-form. The building has 12 floors and a base of 3 floors. The ultramodern design – with the vertical shape and glass façade – has been the topic of much discussion given its dominant profile and location next to the Oslo Opera House. The museum will be finished in 2018.

Heidelberg Materials' subsidiary NorBetong delivered 3,387 cubic meters of ready-mixed concrete for the core alone.
